Modern Knowledge Societies

My study of modern knowledge societies draws on earlier investigations: First, a collection of essays offering the idea of The Knowledge Society (1986) edited by Gernot Böhme and myself and my monograph Knowledge Societies (1994). The idea of a knowledge society sketched in these studies has had an extraordinary public and scientific career – given the many efforts to adapt our concept in policies in many countries and both in its affirmative and critical extension in social scientific examinations (for example, in sociology, law, economics, political science, history, STS, and policy studies).
