The African Academy of Sciences (AAS) and the Stellenbosch Institute for Advanced Study (STIAS) are organising the third workshop on Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine (CB/RM) from 27 June to 1 July 2016 in Stellenbosch, South Africa.
The workshop forms part of the STIAS long-term theme “Health in Transition” and is the first in a series of planned joint AAS-STIAS events . This workshop will impart knowledge and skills in stem cell science and applications including regenerative medicine to early career scientists from numerous African countries and is co-funded through a STIAS grant from the Swedish Riksbankens Jubileumsfond. The workshop also aims to provide opportunities for networking among a multidisciplinary team of experts in the field. Presenters will be drawn from Ghana, Kenya, South Africa, Botswana, Sudan, Brazil, India and Canada.
The programme will include practicums at the Islet Research Laboratory of Stellenbosch University, the ICGEB-Cape Town (International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology) and the Stem Cell Research Initiative at the University of Cape Town.
