The workshop on “Digitalisation, AI, Sustainability and Soil Protection: Multiple Perspectives” is organised by the Stellenbosch University (SU) Development and Rule of Law Programme (DROP) in cooperation with the SU School for Climate Studies and the Institute for Advanced Studies (STIAS). The workshop also draws on an ongoing project funded by the German Ministry for Development Cooperation / BMZ). The interdisciplinary workshop has a particular view to sustainable soil management and sustainable agriculture, investigating core (policy-related and regulatory) soil-relevant challenges and opportunities in the context of digitalisation and AI. In doing so, the workshop shall put into perspective sustainable digitalisation, climate change, artificial intelligence and the law, as well as the role of digitalisation in the soil monitoring organisation and strategies for scaling technology adoption to enhance soil health. It shall consequently open and discuss different disciplinary and geopolitical perspectives. The ultimate purpose of the workshop is to kick-start a small but orchestrated networking dialogue, which can foster better understanding of a relatively novel complexity topic, by bringing together both junior and senior scholars from different disciplinary backgrounds, both from South Africa, other parts of Africa, Europe and the USA.
Participation in the workshop is by invitation only.
