The issue of migration has become a national, regional and global issue of high significance. Forcibly displaced persons often migrate through several countries on their journey to safety. This path – traversing countries and regions – is broadly referred to as a migration corridor. Migration corridors have not gotten adequate attention in academic literature or in news media. Issues around access to healthcare, housing and safety remain largely unexplored despite their enormous significance for human dignity and well-being. Given the urgency of the topic, the need for interdisciplinary engagement, and limited attention to migration corridors in Africa, the Center on Forced Displacement at Boston University, the Stellenbosch Institute for Advanced Study and the Schooner Foundation are pleased to announce a workshop featuring a keynote speech by Dr. Ruhukana Rugunda, former Prime Minister of Uganda, who was himself a refugee and has played an active role in increasing awareness and crafting policy around the issue of migration and refugees. This will be followed by panels focusing on the current challenges, issues and potential solutions. The two panels are Panel 1: Research, Education, and Public Engagement and Panel 2: Migrant Focused NGO and Community-Based Initiatives. The day will also feature networking opportunities for attendees.
