Project:

The Foundations of Virology

At STIAS the text of an extended online edition (eBook) of the historic research work, ‘The Foundations of Medical and Veterinary Virology: Discoverers and Discoveries, Inventors and Inventions, Developers and Technology’ will be written. Thereafter, additional images will be edited, files converted to high-resolution book-print files and files uploaded to the website (http://www.utmb.edu/virusimages/), which is linked to three major microbiology/virology websites (American Society for Virology, American Society for Microbiology, and International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses.

The original motive remains: to use the remarkable history and grand stories of discovery underpinning modern virology to stimulate further inquiry by young people, globally. The presence at STIAS of three colleagues, who are also knowledgeable and interested in the history of virology, offers an once-in-a-lifetime chance to “test-drive” notions of the kind of “hooks” that might best intrigue such young people, especially Africans, and perhaps influence a few career choices.
