Nobel in Africa Symposium Series to be launched in October 2022

29 July 2022

STIAS will on Tuesday, 2 August 2022 host a soft launch and brand reveal event of the Nobel in Africa Symposium Series. The event is a precursor to the Official Launch on 25 October.

Nobel in Africa is a STIAS Initiative in partnership with Stellenbosch University, under the auspices of the Nobel Foundation and the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences with funding from the Knut & Alice Wallenberg Foundation.

For the first time since 1965, the Nobel Foundation’s Symposium activities are coming to Africa and STIAS is privileged to be the host for the initial eight symposia over the next six years.

The Nobel in Africa Symposium Series seeks to celebrate science and to share breakthroughs with the South African and African continent’s scholarly, public and private sectors, in conversation with internationally renowned and celebrated scientists and world movers. The Symposium Series provides a unique opportunity to support and showcase advanced research and scholarship on the African continent, and to promote research excellence and collaborative scholarship in Africa in conversation with the rest of the world. The aim is to provide an international forum to promote the sharing of innovative, high-level scholarship and to demonstrate the importance of scientific research for the future of the continent and the world.

Each Symposium includes an outreach element in the programme involving engagements with universities and research institutions in the Western Cape and countrywide.
