A book is being developed which takes into account multiple objectives of providing enough food at household and individual level, an acceptable monetary income and sustainable production under the constraints of limited access to resources (land, credit, water, technology, information, level of education and more), dependency on remittances and social security programs, and limited access to markets. The central research question is “How can we move from food insecurity to food security in a rural environment: the case of South Africa”. The work also links to the National Development Plan of South Africa and the National Planning Commission. It will also explore opportunities for private sector contributions to food security.
